Event Overview
Sontha Marakattalai successfully organized a 6-day Rural Women Skill Development Workshop with the mission of empowering women in underserved areas to become financially independent. Held at our training facility in Ponnagar Kuppandampalayam, the workshop was specifically tailored to help women gain practical skills, confidence, and a strong foundation for starting home-based businesses.
The initiative focused on tailoring, embroidery, and basic entrepreneurship training, with special sessions dedicated to helping women understand how to market their skills, manage small finances, and access local resources or self-help groups.
Real Impact & Stories
Most of the women who attended were from nearby villages such as Kuppandampalayam, Ponnagar, and surrounding areas, many of whom had never used a sewing machine before. By the end of the workshop, participants were able to stitch basic garments independently and confidently.
Workshop Kit & Support
At the conclusion of the training, each participant received a starter sewing kit consisting of:
-
Thread rolls
-
Needles
-
Measuring tape
-
Chalks
-
Sample pattern book
-
Practice cloth pieces
We have also created a WhatsApp support group for the participants where they can continue to get help, share their progress, and access further guidance from trainers and experienced tailors.
Volunteer & Team Contribution
The event would not have been possible without the dedication of our 10-member volunteer team who coordinated logistics, refreshments, daily registrations, and material distribution. We also thank the two professional trainers who generously donated their time to mentor the women.
