Event Overview

Access to basic healthcare remains a major concern in many rural parts of Tamil Nadu. To address this gap, Sontha Marakattalai organized a one-day Free Medical Camp at the community hall in Kailasampalayam. The camp was open to all residents of the surrounding villages and provided a range of free health services including consultations, health screenings, distribution of essential medicines, and health education.

This camp focused particularly on elderly citizens, women, and children, as they often face the most difficulty accessing timely and affordable medical services.

Medical Services Provided

The following services were offered during the camp:

  • General health checkups (BP, diabetes, fever, infections)

  • Women’s health consultations with a female gynecologist

  • Eye checkups with a vision screening and prescription service

  • Free medicine distribution

  • Nutrition and hygiene awareness sessions

Our team included:

  • 7 Doctors (including general physicians and specialists)

  • 3 Pharmacists

  • 12 Local Volunteers

  • 2 Nurses

All diagnostic tools and medicine were arranged with support from well-wishers and local clinics.

Community Participation

The response from the community was overwhelming. Elderly individuals came in early, some assisted by neighbors, and many women brought their children along for general checkups. The atmosphere was one of mutual care and appreciation.

Patients were registered in an orderly manner, screened, and then directed to the appropriate doctors. Volunteers ensured crowd flow, distributed water and snacks, and explained health information to those waiting.

Voices from the Camp

Mr. Ramasamy, a 65-year-old farmer, said:

“I’ve been having blood pressure issues for months but couldn’t afford to travel to the town hospital. Today I got my checkup and medicines for free. I feel taken care of. Thank you to the team.”
